The situation in which Heinz was a difficult one since it required Heinz to take a decision amongst two unethical paths. The first unethical pathway was the fact that the druggist was charging Heinz a price which was 10 folds higher than the manufacturing cost. Considering the fact that Heinz’s wife was in the end stages of her life, the druggist should have at least considered this one case before going on to commercialize the drug. The ethical consideration of the druggist too comes into play here. The next ethical factor was the way Heinz could procure the drug after not being able to come up with the $2000. He thus ultimately resorted to stealing. According to Kohlberg’s defined stages of Moral development, Heinz was acting based on his own self - interests.
